Background of the Study: Thyroid disorders, including hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, and thyroid cancer, are prevalent in many populations globally. In Nigeria, thyroid disorders are becoming more recognized due to increased awareness and medical advancements (Kadir et al., 2023). Patients with thyroid disorders often experience a wide range of physical, emotional, and social challenges that significantly affect their quality of life (Adebayo et al., 2023). These challenges can include fatigue, weight changes, mood swings, and, in the case of thyroid cancer, the fear and stigma associated with the disease (Zubair et al., 2024).
Nurses play a critical role in managing patients with thyroid disorders by providing education, emotional support, and symptom management. Their involvement extends from the point of diagnosis to post-treatment care, helping patients manage their conditions through both pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions (Olanrewaju et al., 2023). However, despite their potential impact, there is limited research on how nurses specifically contribute to improving the quality of life for thyroid disorder patients in Nigerian healthcare settings, particularly in Kaduna State.
This study seeks to investigate the role of nurses in enhancing the quality of life for patients diagnosed with thyroid disorders, focusing on their educational and supportive roles within hospitals in Kaduna State.
Statement of the Problem: Patients with thyroid disorders in Kaduna State often experience challenges in managing the emotional and physical aspects of their condition. Nurses, as integral members of the healthcare team, are in a unique position to offer continuous support and guidance. However, there is a lack of comprehensive understanding of the specific roles that nurses play in improving the quality of life for these patients. This study will explore the extent of nurses' involvement in managing thyroid disorders and how their roles can be optimized to improve patient outcomes.

Scope and Limitations of the Study: This study will focus on thyroid disorder patients in hospitals in Kaduna State. Data will be collected through patient surveys, interviews, and nursing practice observations. The limitations of the study include potential biases in patient self-reporting and the challenge of generalizing the findings across all Nigerian states.
